Osiris, known as Asar in ancient Kemet, is the revered god of the afterlife, resurrection, and the eternal cycle of life, death, and rebirth. He embodies the belief that life continues beyond the physical realm, and transformation is a vital aspect of existence.
Once a wise and just king, Osiris was beloved by his people until his envious brother Set killed him and scattered his body. His devoted wife, Auset, gathered his remains and restored his life through her magic. Following his resurrection, Osiris became the lord of Duat - the underworld, where he ruled with fairness and guided souls on their journeys after death. His revival signifies the triumph of life over chaos, embodying the promise that death is a transition to transformation rather than an end.
Osiris is often depicted as a mummified figure, wrapped in white linen, adorned with the atef crown, and holding the crook and flail, symbols of kingship, guidance, and discipline. His green skin represents rebirth, regeneration, and the fertility of the Nile. The rituals honouring Osiris taught that by living in harmony with Ma’at - truth, balance, and justice - one could partake in his eternal life.
Spiritually, Osiris embodies patience, inner strength, and the quiet power of transformation. He teaches that challenges, endings, and losses provide opportunities for growth. By accepting life’s cycle and trusting in divine order, we can rise again, renewed and wiser.
Osiris’ teachings extend beyond death, inviting reflection on personal transformation:
What old beliefs, habits, or fears are ready to be shed?
How can we embrace the cycles of endings and beginnings with trust?
Where can patience and wisdom guide us through challenges?
To connect with Osiris, visualise him on the lush green banks of the Nile - mummified yet radiant, holding his symbols of guidance. Feel his energy surrounding you, offering support for your transformation, and reassuring you that life, in all its cycles, is sacred and purposeful.
